Discover the history of where they live
Date: 19/04/2006
Thanks to the Lottery Heritage Fund Young Roots, SA4Y have just completed an 18 month long project helping
young people discover the history of where they live.
This project involved lots of activities from Mediaeval archery, viking games, turning wooden items with tredle lathe, visiting Isleham Bronze Age at Moyses Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds and much more.
The project finale was a presentation of Roman finds discovered by the young people on a field walk and dig at Isleham where so many finds were discovered that presentation cases for Isleham, Kennet, Fordham and Soham schools were set up.
Young people from Soham Village College also acted out the Soham Train Disaster on video at Nene Valley Railway and the excellent sepia effect film was first viewed at the presentation. Copies of the DVD are available (price on application) from Youth Office (01353) 724115 also copies of the excavation and CD presentation.
