Annual Report - 2006
Welcome to the AGM of Soham Action 4 Youth
This group has now been in existence for three years and the committee have met twice a year in order to apply for funding for youth activities for the young people of Soham and district. We have undertaken two surveys to gather the opinions and views of the young people during this time to find out what activities young people would like and what life is like in this district.
Last AGM Linda Homan stood down as chair but as there has not been anyone step forward to take on that role, she has remained as acting chair. This organisation needs to formalise it's committee if it is to continue and we need just three people to come forward and sign up as Company directors (x2) and Company secretary.
Awards for All
Louise Sarll successfully applied for £3,200 of funding so that activities and trips can be organised during the summer holidays this year.
Training for staff and volunteers is also included in this bid and we hope to secure the training for people interested in working with young people.
Many thanks to Awards for All.
Young Roots Lottery Heritage Funding
This project has been operating since February last year.
Barbara Wooten took the post of Youth co-ordinator and the historical organisation Venta Icenorum were commissioned to work with this project to deliver expertise, workshops, interactive workshops, and talks.
Barbara went on maternity leave and Mel Cursons and Linda Homan have continued the work with young people from Fordham, Isleham, Chippenham, Wicken and Soham. The project has seen young people exploring sections of history from the places where they live with Venta Icenorum putting on summer holiday activities Iast year where young people visited a farrier and wrought their own blade, turned wooden handles on a treadle lathe and take part in medieval archery and Viking games. There were visits to various museums and workshops helping the young people experience the sights, tastes and smells of the ages!
There was a field walk on a field between Isleham and Fordham and the plentiful Roman finds are being presented in display cabinets to the junior schools in the area as well as a lasting display in the resource centre at Soham Village College. (All of the committee are invited to the presentations on Wednesday 19th April at 1pm in the Resource Centre at the College).
The Soham train disaster has been re-enacted at Nene Valley Railway with a real steam engine by a group of young people and this video/DVD will be on display at the presentations.

The Committee
Several young people have now joined the committee and their lively input is very welcome. We still need new members to the committee and are still seeking a new chair, but Linda Homan would be happy to continue if trustees and company secretary could be found. Rosie Wills who agreed last AGM to become financial administrator, but due to work commitments can no longer carry on. Many thanks to Rosie for all of her hard work.
