About Soham Action 4 Youth
Youth Work is education for life. It is about helping young people answer questions such as 'What sort of person am I?', 'What type of person do I want to become?' and 'What sort of community do I want to live in?'. It works by building relationships with young people (usually between 11-19) and offering them programmes of activities in informal surroundings. This may be in Village Halls or on street corners, anywhere that young people are. Young people are encouraged to learn new skills, acquire new knowledge and reflect upon their attitudes. We can offer a safe place for groups to experiment with changing roles and to take greater control over their lives.
As part of Community Education's role to support the development of young people within our catchment area, we run various youth clubs and projects throughout the year in line with County priorities and local need. Among the clubs being run are the Citizenship Club and Youth Parliament. For the mechanically minded the Kit Car Project is held on a Wednesday after school.
We are also keen to widen our programme curriculum and develop a number of new courses throughout the coming year. We have very good music/drama and recording facilities and would like to offer courses in 'DJ' Skills as well as Performing Arts. Another avenue we are exploring is the viability of a Motor Mechanics course. To gauge the demand for such courses, it would be helpful if you could register you interest by contacting the Community Education Office.
There's really something for all young people, so if you're interested or want to get involved in any of these activities you can get more information from either of the Youth & Community Development Workers, or by contacting us via our contact page.
